So you want to know more about the cat behind the keyboard? :3

My name’s Raine and I’m a mid-40s, standard nerd from northern England. I grew up in the 80s playing 8-bit microcomputer games (and was later gifted a Sega Mega Drive), and my love of retrogaming largely stems back to games of that era — my personal biggest nostalgia being anything between the Genesis and the PS2.

I’ve enjoyed emulation since the early days of NES and SNES emulators, and it’s always been a goal of mine to put together a website/blog with my own reviews of retro video games of all kinds, in the hopes that I can help other gamers to uncover some hidden gems and find some new favourites.

RetroKitty is my pet project — my blog where I’ll be posting reviews as honest and subjective as I can make them, while of course incorporating some of my chaotic-idiot energy. My personal policy on reviews is that, with a few exceptions (I couldn’t beat the final boss on Bomberman), I’m only allowing myself to review games I’ve personally beaten — or in the case of arcade games and other games with no ending, ones I’ve played a lot of.

Because of this, I’m not taking requests — I’ve got a backlog of reviews I want to write, and a much longer backlog of games I really want to beat. I’m adding new reviews to this blog regularly, though, so check back often — it’s entirely likely your favourite game will show up here sooner or later! (Unless your favourite game is Battletoads.)

If you like what I do here, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment on a review, as I’d love to hear your thoughts! Alternatively, you can contact me privately by emailing raine@retrokitty.net, and if you want to see more of my day-to-day rambling, I can also be found on Mastodon and Bluesky, where I yell incoherently and swear entirely too much.

With that said, I very much hope you enjoy the site and my incoherent ramblings!
